The Azerbaijan Progressive Socialist Party, the Azerbaijan Public Committee for Rights of Five Cuban Heroes, and the Independent Expert Group of Azerbaijan’s Left Socialists have joined the action of the International Committee for Freedom for Cuban Five on December 10 – the International Human Rights Day. The action includes mass appeals from all over the world to the U.S. President, Barack Obama, and is being conducted from December 10 to 14, 2010 by the suggestion of the delegates from Latin America and Europe, who have come together at the VI Colloquium for freedom for the five fighters against terrorism in Olguin, Cuba. Azerbaijan’s left forces that participate in the international movement for the liberation of the Cuban Five addressed an electronic letter to President Barack Obama, demanding that he should release the five Cuban patriots from the U.S. prisons. The letter reads as follows: "The UN General Assembly approved the World Declaration for Human Rights on December 10, 1984, and announced this day as the International Human Rights Day. In the report on October 13, 2010, Amnesty International demanded that the U.S. government should consider this case and soften any injustice by amnesty or in other possible ways if the legal appeals proved to be inefficient. President Obama has enough evidence proving the innocence of the five Cubans, who never endangered the U.S.A., never had weapons, and had the only goal of scouting among the terrorist organizations in Miami to prevent the killing of innocent people. On this International Human Rights Day we appeal to President Obama as a person, who has authorities in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, as a lawyer, a father, a husband and a son, as a fair and just man awarded with the Nobel Prize, and demand stopping the injustice and releasing the five Cubans. We are sure it would be a very noble step on the part of the U.S. President to manage to abolish the economic blockade of Cuba, take the U.S. troops from Guantanamo, and use his constitutional right to free Gerardo Hernandez Nordero, Ramon Labanino Salazar, Antonio Guerrero Rodriguez, Fernando Gonzalez Llort, and Rene Gonzalez Sehverert – true patriots of their Motherland and real fighters against terrorism.”
